What could be a better way to reach out to your community than through a great meal?  Recently, I asked myself: “What can I do?”  In an instant the answer was clear - cook and share a meal - a community meal!

Here is how it worked for my community:
My family cooked for 60 people. Those who joined us also contributed in their own way by either bringing a dish, contributing financially toward the next meal, prepping or helping clean-up.  Everyone who participated was asked to think of how they could share the meal with others and took “To Go” containers with food when they left.  Our meal was planned for Sunday around 2 p.m. so everyone could share the meal with others who needed it that same day. The meals went to homeless, a family with a sick caretaker, shut-ins, elderly and people who just needed a good meal.  We have had two of these wonderful community-style meals and several are planned for the year to come.  We have included these recipes, as well as a few comments about how the community meal touched others.  There are many ways to reach out and help others.  We found the best way to figure out what works is to look at our special gifts, abilities, experience, knowledge and most of all what we like.

Katie’s invites you to ask yourself, “What am I good at doing?”
Then go out and discover what actions best fit you!  What matters the most is that you step out and act.  It doesn’t take much - doing something simple like helping someone cross the street or delivering a kind gesture to someone having a hard time - to make our world a better place. The smallest action can have the biggest effect - especially in the way you feel!  There are many opportunities and many great people out there already sharing their gifts in our communities around the world. However, there is a lot to be done and a lot of joy to be spread.  So always keep an open door and an open mind, because opportunity is always knocking!  We invite you to try it out if you like and share with us your heartfelt experience with us - it is always great to share and we would love to hear.  Check out the Katy’s Presents Forum

Hello, i think this is as good of a place as any to post and let you know. I went to subscribe to your RSS feed, and when i clicked it i got an error that said “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING” followed by other gibberish that scrolled off the screen. I had to force the page to stop loading because it locked up my browser. Cheers.
